What exactly does the TV cable do?

When the cable's pulled forward, out of the adjuster, you drop the line (fluid) pressure inside the trans. This gives you softer & earlier shift. The shift is softer because the fluid pressure is lower, and since the pressure's lower, the clutches slip more (instead of engaging right away). That's how 700r4's burn up.. over the years, the cable slides forward, drops line pressure, burns up clutches, etc...
Adjust the cable so more of it's inside the adjuster, and you raise line pressure. You won't be able to raise it too much, because as soon as you floor the gas, it will "readjust" itself to the proper adjustment.

The TV replaces both the modulator and the kickdown switch/cable. If it just controlled kickdown there wouldn't be so many blown trannies because many T350 veterans assume you can leave it off and it will be ok.

The tv cable controls 3 things, shift points, kickdown and tv boost pressure. Proper adjustment is critical for proper operation.
