TH350 in 92 Camaro
TH350 in 92 Camaro
I have an 92 camaro that i am getting ready to drop a 406carb'd motor into. I have a th350 that has been rebuilt, and has a long tailshaft on it. Has anyone on here done this swap? I know i can use a 82 200c driveshaft and a torque arm adapter out of jegs, but do i need a different crossmember? I really like to get things going!

The Hurst T400 adapter kit (from Jegs) includes a new cross member, so I would think the T350 kit also does. Unless, it is only needed for the t400 swap and not the t350 swap.

for about 75 dollars you can get the torque arm adapter from b&m (pn 30299) that has an adapter for the cross member too

Or you can spend more money and buy one of Steve Spohn's torque arm kits. It will include the proper crossmember and the new torque arm mounts to the crossmember instead of the tranny. It's a good investment.
Your driveshaft will be a direct bolt-in with the long tailshaft TH350. You need the 200c driveshaft if you use a short tailshaft TH350. The shaft will be 3" longer.

Wait a minute! Do u have a 700 tranny in the car now? If so, why not use it ? The 350 tranny is cheaper , the torque converter too, but what I'm getting at is, if u put any type of performance gears in the az of your car, U will hate it on the highway!! 373 with a 350 tranny will have u buzzing along at 60mph at about 3000rpm. Thats a lot of wear & tear on your new motor!! U know something, with the speed limit in some places 65-70 mph your motor is going to get used up pretty darn fast son!! Try to deal with the issues of the 700, because in the long run you'll probally be glad that u did!

P.S. been there , done that & hated every minute of it! Gears & 350 trans suck on the highway!

For about $25 you should be able to locate a crossmember from an 82 camaro. These had the metric tranny and have a crossmember which bolts directly to your subframe (the forward holes) and accepts the 350TH tranny. Just completed the project myself and everything bolted up perfectly. Good luck.
dear goodness keep the 700, i have a 400tranny in my 74 camaro and at least 373 gears(guy i bought it from didnt know what they were, and i havent taken the time to figure it out) and i dread driving on the highway now, the motor just screams. i mean, if you really want a 350.. go for it, but i advise otherwise

They are right about the 350/400 thing....If you plan on driving the car on the street, keep the 700R4. However, the TH350 IS stronger, so, if your going to drive it on the srtip, use the 350.
Call up Next Gen, 800-921-9214,they hae all the parts you need for the swap.
I think the parts you need will cost around $100. That includes a new torque arm bracket, cable brackets, vacumm lines, and hardware. For a TH350 swap you use the stock crossmember.
