Need Help with a transmission swap.

I have a 91 z28 convertible that i got a good deal on with a slipping transmission. Never drove by me nice body, interior, top etc. motor a little worn but its the original 305.
I come across a guy moving and got a 700r4 tci Street Transmission,Street Fighter,no Lock Up, 11" breakaway torque converter stall speed 2800 to 3200, bought from Jegs about two yrs ago. It came out of a 67 camaro with
a 383 so the question is will it fit? to old? just not a good tranny for a 305 driver or what? The tranny has 4YP 226 AT on the id. PLease any help or advice appreciated. Whats the tranny worth? lv2bnmyz

What transmission does your car currently have?

I know for sure that converter is too high of a stall for a worn 305, but let the other members chime in with their opinions on the tranny. How much did you pick it up for?

Re: Need Help with a transmission swap.

$1749-no converter-converter is 322.99 all non lockup stuff.
lockup came in your car but isn't required to use the trans. Mileage will be worse this way, smog if applicable not an option, for a driver it should be fine-maybe a little high on the stall. i'd get a lower stall but that's IMO. a 305 shouldn't need all the stall. the description of the breakaway converter is 1000 over stock-stock would normally be 1500-1700??? for a total of 2500-2700??? the math might be off i'd call tci to find out for sure. if that is the case it might be liveable but with no lockup eating away at your wallet. make sure if you install it that you hook up the t.v. cable because the street fighter doesn't have a constant pressure valve body. tape off the wiring on your car and nobody'll ever know but you, it shouldn't set a code?

the speedo is probably electric in yours so a change over probably required. if metal reluctor is used it can be driven onto the output shaft with a pipe and hammer-again retain all your speedo stuff to use in the tci trans.
