An Auto tranny will be relatively cheaper, and will usually give more consistant track times.

autos are usually the better choice for racing.. less mistakes and easier to get traction.. unless you can drive a stick very well..

automatics multiply torque-using a high stall the torque can be much higher at the starting line than a stick. i've seen low horsepower cars overcome this advantage but it's hard to beat even though with a stick once moving the power is more directly through eating less hp from the engine. street racing i'd go with the automatic because there are no track conditions-just how much you and your friends pour out vht- and on the streets chasin is racin. most street racing is done at night with dew on the ground with no prep and bangin through gears will cause a loss with lack of traction. don't ask me how I know all this.
