Tranny Q's, Need Lots of Input
Ok, the first question is: what the heck trannsmission is in my car? It is a 1982 Camaro Berlinetta. Its an automatic, and it is a 3 speed with overdrive. Is this a 200r4 or a 200c? Do they make shift kits for these? What about aftermarket shifters? Also, are these transmissions any good? I forgot one more thing. I am planning on putting a built 350 in this car, if this tranny is rebuilt will it handle 300hp? Thanks (please dont just answer "get a 700r4 or get a th350, i want real information)

There should be RPO codes on the inside of your glove box. Type these into the RPO decoder (on thirdgen.org) until you find the one which tells you your model of transmission.
I also heard that a v6 tranny was different than a v8; most likely in the way it bolts up. I am not completely sure of that last part, but I would look into it further.

The only automatic available with the 82'a was the metric 200-C, 3 spd no overdrive, usually with 2.73 rear end ratio. To be sure, look at the pan of the tranny, if it is square with 1 corner beveled and If it has 'Hydramatic Div' and 'Metric' stamped in it, it is a 200c. If someone put in a 200-r4, it has a wierd pan the looks like 2 pans on 2 levels.
