Quick question about driveshaft, torque arm and cross member...

I have a quick question concerning a driveshaft, torque arm, and trans cross member. I have an 88 GTA that currently has a BW ST-10 out of an 82 TA in it, but if all goes according to plan, I will have a WC T-5 for it on Saturday (I want the 5th overdrive gear). Anyway, since the driveshaft, torque arm, and trans cross member needed to be replaced with ones out of an 82 for the ST-10, I need the above mentioned parts for my T-5 swap. I have heard they are the same as parts for a 700R4, and if so, that makes my hunting at the junkyards a lot easier. Can anyone just confirm this for me real fast before I go looking for and buy all this stuff? A simple yes or no will do, thank you!

Re: Quick question about driveshaft, torque arm and cross member...

hey, if you are using a t5, the crossmember and driveshaft will be the same as a 700r4 car, the driveshaft will also be the same as a 4th gen shaft.

the torque arm mount on the trans in unsure of, i know a 700r4 one wont fit the t5, but i dont know if the one from the t-10 will fit the t5 either.

thanx for the reply, i waqs afraid the torque arm might be different, but if its the same as one for a T10, then i'm good to go.

anyone else have any help they can offer up on the torque arm, i'd appreciate it!

Re: Quick question about driveshaft, torque arm and cross member...

Yeah you might need to get a T5 torque arm mount, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Since they're both manual trannys, the mount just might be the same. You will need to get a torque arm from an 83-up 3rd gen that was equipped with a T5 or a 700r4. Your T10 torque arm is longer since the T10 trans is shorter than a T5 or 700r4. Pay attention to which direction the "lips" face on the new torque arm to make sure that they match the mount you have. There's no rhyme or reason to the torque arms, some had the lips facing the driveshaft, some had them facing away from the driveshaft.
