t-56 and 3.27 gears?

Hey guy i am looking at a 89 trans am with a t-56 and 3.27 gears. i was wondering how the first gear compares to say a 700r4 with 3.27 gears? What is the exact gear of a t-56? i know a 700r4 is 3.06 first gear. so i guss my main question is will a 700r4 or t-56 be faster of the line (everythign ebing the same engine, tires, etc.)
thanks
Tom

'94-up T56's have a 2.66 first gear. That's why the stock fourth-gens came with at least a 3.42 gear. I would recommend a 3.73 for a TPI car or 4.10's for a more radical combo.

If you've got the 3.27 9-bolt, your only choice for gears is the 3.70. Search this board for that info, I've posted it quite a few times. I'm getting a T56 in mine, I have 3.45 9-bolt now but will be putting in a 3.70.

The 700R4 will definitely be quicker off the line. I have the 3.23 rear end with a T56 and the car bogs like hell off the line. I'm putting 3.73 gears in over the summer. With a TPI car 3.73 is ideal. 4.10 would be nice if you can hook up.

Yeah, I agree... I have the 3.08's with my '96 T56 right now, and its a little sluggish and hard to launch right now. Can't get the revs up, but I'm going to 3.73's or 4.10's soon.
