tranny Q's
Hi all, currently replacing the rear seal on my tranny. The seal that I bought came with a bushing to the drive shaft too. Is this required to replace with the seal? Any tips on removing, installing?
Also noticed that the output shaft moves quite a bit, is this a bad bushing or normal? Is it difficult to replace?
Thanks for any input

you can just replace the seal. if it leaks again you'll have to replace the bushing and seal. to do that you would need to remove the extension housing. movement is normal-as long as it's not making the seal leak it should be o.k..
to remove the seal hit the side of the seal. hit a screwdriver with a hammer. it will dent the seal. work your way around the seal until it gets pushed in enough to pry it out. Do this jently without hitting the aluminum housing. to remove the bushing you would need a bushing cutter or a driver the correct size. just hit that out with a hammer also. when installing the seal and bushing loctite them in. there is a split on the bushing make sure it is towards the top of the housing or the bushing will wear prematurely. if the seal is booted make sure the weep hole is down so water accumulation can escape.
