700-R4 won't go in any gear
Last year i bought an '86 Z28 about 275 miles from my house. About 30 miles into the trip back the car started to run hot (about 240 degrees). I turned on the heater, stopped a few times, whatever i could think of to get it home. Around 1 mile from my house the trans started slipping and by the time i was 3 house away it "went". I can rev the engine in forward and reverse and it doesn't move. I figured all the heat fried the trans, but i'm not sure why reverse is gone. I also wonder about the TC. I have the trans out now and will take it for a rebuild soon. One strange thing is that the fluid didn't really smell burnt. I would be interested if some one could explain why reverse would be gone. Also, while price varies, i would be interested to know what others have paid for 700-R4 rebuilds. I'm going to a couple trans shops in the next couple days and would like some frame of reference. Thanks for any info.

Find someone that has done performance rebuilds & has a good reputation before giving it too anybody. If you cannot find one in your area try Trans-Go at 626 4437456 and ask who they recommend in your area that does quality performance work, why take a chance on someone who is not familiar with the ins & outs of building a performance 700R4 transmission. If you have any questions call me at 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST.
Hope This Helps!!!
