TV cable adjustment woes

I just got done adjusting the TV cable on my TBI equipped '88 Camaro. It was waiting a real long time to shift from 1st to 2nd and when it did shift it was hard enough to snap your neck. I decided that the TV cable was probably out of adjustment so I adjusted it as described in the Haynes manual. Now the TV cable is too short and won't allow the throttle to open all the way. Should I depress the adjustment tab and go the other way with it? Is there some other problem that needs to be addressed?

I always have problems w/ the TV cable. I found that the "textbook" way isnt really good. Try this...push the tab in, and pull the adjuster all the way out. You should have slack in the cable. With the throttle closed, push the tab in and slide the adjuster in just enough to remove the slack. Take it for a test drive. Start off w/ normal throttle, and just after it shifts into 2nd, nail the gas and it should downshift back into first. If it doesnt do this, slide the adjuster back towards the firewall 1 notch, and test it again, until you get the upshift back into 1st gear. hope this helps....

I just pressed down the adjustment tab and opened the throttle to WOT. Now it seems to be properly adjusted. No more broken necks and chirping tires on the 1-2 shift.

You're suppossed to push it to wide open throttle when adjusting it, that's how it adjusts.

Yeah; if you have the adjuster tab pressed in and you just open the throttle to WOT, the TV cable will pull out further than it should...
