TO LOCKUP OR NOT TO LOCKUP THAT IS THE QUES.

I hope no one minds the word play, but I have read on this board about lockup and non lockup converters and am somewhat confused by this, I see that some of you can control this your self from a switch you can install, so what does lockup and nonlockup mean and what are the effects of this, advantages os disadvan. and why. Sorry for my ingnorance on this subject and thanks for anyones patience and ansewer.

Well if you have a lockup converter and it sdoesn't lock-up you can smoke the converter and the tranny. When the car is at stable load(constant RPM) typically on the highway, the converter locks-up and you get a ltlle more gas mileage out it. That is all I know I'll let someone else ake it from here. MAybe I can learn something too.

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, Hurst shifter, dakota digital gauge package, procharger supercharger.

The lock up converter locks the converter in a direct drive mode. "everthing spins the same rpm" A non lock up converter is moving no syncronazation. As far a controlling lockup some one that uses that kind of system might be able to explain it better than me. But I do know that circle track racers run a special insert instead of a converter and its hooked up to a pedel like a clutch.
