I'm working on a 86 Z28 with the M39 5-speed. I swapped the 305 for the 350 and noticed the shifter is a tad far to the right, the owner says it's been that way since he bought it. When I look into the prob I find it leans to the right about 3 inches farther than it should. After taking the lever completly out it looks like it's made that way? What the hell? When it's in first the lever is straight up, in fourth it's about where reverse should be and in reverse the console is broken and the lever is pointing to the back right passenger. It won't turn around backwards, I can't bend it without a press, The tranny looks good. Any ideas as to what happened or how to fix it.
