T-5 questions...
Can it be built to handle more than the rated 310 lbs of tq?
Anyone know of a kit or anything?
Also, while it may sound stupid, why is a v-6 tranny so much weaker than the older BW t-5's? (or is it?)
Trying to figure out the least expensive way to get a 5 spd hooked up to a 350/305 car.
Thanks!

They say that a World Class T5 can handle 350 TQ and the 305 T5/speed cars came w/290 TQ. The reason they(GM) didn't put a T5 behind a 350 is because it wouln't handle the 320TQ that the stock 350 produced or at least wouln't hold up in a long run.By "Long Run" I mean Warranty(3600 Miles).
So do the math:
T5 rated for 290TQ
WC T5 rated for 350TQ
------------------
1990 Formula
Factory:TPI-305/Dual Cat(230hp),5 Speed,3.42 rear, Dealer:Aluminum Drive Shaft
Mods:SLP air foil,K&N Filter, Accel:wires,coil cap,rotor.Hypertech Thermomaster chip,Stat,Fan switch,TES headers,MSD6AL,AFPR(46), Harwood fiberglass hood,original GM "Notchback GTA" hatch.
Flowmaster 3" Cat-back exhaust,TB coolant bypass, Centerforce dual friction clutch.

My six speed is being rebuilt and I just found a cheap T-5 to put in. Best place to get a real cheap tranny is on ebay. $240.00 shipped! Works fine, but won't las t too long if you have some HP above 320. This is my third T-5...so just don't powershift or do high rpm dumps and it will last for a while. Save up and get a 6 speed...much much better!
