Tranny Swap
Bad news, i checked, and i actually have a 200c tranny. i want something with overdrive, and if i get a 5 speed i can get a nice differential and still daily drive it. alright, those of you who have done an auto to 5 speed swap, was it incredibly difficult. i have read the guides, but i want to know from people like me. any difficulties? thanks
I swapped in a T5 from a 700R4 and it was a piece of cake. About as much work as if you had to replace a clutch. The worst part was installing the hydaulics/pedals for the clutch, a lot of screwing around but not real difficult. Don't know about the 200c but it shouldn't be much different. Find a Haynes/Chiltons/Helm book and follow the tranny removal and installation instructions.
Rebuilding the T5 was kind of a pain but if you get a good one then don't worry about it.
Remember that when you put the manual in you may notice that your motor/tranny mounts may have to be replaced.
Enjoy!!

I've not done the auto to manual swap, but I've been down the Hydraulic clutch installation road. Give me a holler if you need any help as that's the hardest part (as said above).
I suggest find a donor car to get all the pedal setup and hydraulics from (if not the tranny too).

wow clem its been awhile huh? i have been looking into these swaps because you can have some pretty cool gears and still drive it daily. i have looked on thirdgenresource.com and found a complete setup, all used, for 750 bucks. its like a little conversion kit they put together. is this a good deal? i wanna see if they will just sell me the kit without the tranny, i will find one that is bullet proof.

That sounds like a pretty fair deal to me. As long as its a WC T5. I really don't worry too much about the strength of the gearbox though. If you've got a T5 it's always gonna be a weak link (probably THE weak link) so you just gotta drive so as not to trash the tranny. You can still have LOTS of fun...trust me
.
I paid $50 for everything I needed from a donor car that had already had the tranny sold from it. I needed to eventually get a new master cylinder, but everything else is still in use (well, it was last time the car ran...). You can probably do better than the $750, but it's fair.
