V6/V8 trans interchangability?

The question is can it happen. I never looked under a V6 thirdgen, but I've heard conflicting stories about if the trans under them fit V8 engines. I have a friend who want's my 700-R4, which is 27 spline, but built. He has a V6 with an almost-dead tranny. Will it work? Too dark outside to go out and look. Just want to double-check. Also, the car's and '89...what worries should I have regarding TCC lockup(connector)? Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but isn't the bellhousing bolt pattern totally different since the V8 is a 90 degree engine and the V6 is a 60 degree engine?

If it's a 4.3L v6, it will work. Otherwise the bolt pattern is different.

If the v6 in question is anything but a 4.3L, the answer is:

If it's an auto, no, it will not work. Period.

If it's a stick, you can build a bastardized hybrid with a v8 bellhousing and a v6 tranny, but I don't see why you'd want to, because the spline count on the input shaft is different necessitating a custom clutch disc, or using the puny v6 disc.

4.3L V6 shares the same bellhousing pattern with the SBC and will work fine.

Yep. Found out Saturday. Tranny looks the same except for the bellhousing. Thought they were all the same...damn! Oh well, maybe he'd like a motor, too . Thanks, guys.

Actually the 4.3 is internally weaker, so if you plan on beating it.....

It's like a case of a v6 5 speed bolting to a v8 with the v8 bellhousing.... Who would do this just to end up doing it over.
