What problems do failing Torque Converters have?
I have an 88 GTA 5.7L with the 700R4 tranny. In my particular instance, the best way I can describe it is that above about 4500RPMs it feels like clutch slippage (ie the engine revs higher but the car doesn't speed up proportionately) The transmission is new with less then 3000 miles on it. The TC is original. Car itself has 70k miles on it (apparently a rough 70k on the drivetrain. I'm going to need new u-joints soon, and the rear-end is likely in less then ideal shape)
Can the a bad TC exhibit this behavior, or am I looking at a problem in the Transmission itself? If it is the tranny, it's definitely still under warranty. If it's the TC, I'll have to get a new one. When the old tranny died, it wore down a number of parts and filled the tranny fluid with metal shavings. Could that damage the TC? If I need to get a new TC, what's a good unit to get for a good price? I want to convert to a T56 in the future, but the near future is not an option right now.

Well, you kinda put your finger on the problem. It sounds like the clutches in your transmission are slipping. Check your fluid level. If its fine, I think a trip back to whoever built is in order.
