700r4 help, please!!!!

I bought a the rebuild kit from pro-built awhile back and had the trans rebuilt by a local guy that is supposed to be the best trans guy in the area.I also bought a 3500 lockup stall from Darrell Young.I finally got a day off yesterday and installed the trans & converter back in the car.
If I leave the shifter in OD position it will go thru all of the gears without a problem,but if I put the shifter in low, it WILL NOT shift out manually when I move it into 2nd,3rd 0r OD.I am going t call the guy that rebuilt it tonight,but I woul like to have insight and opinions from you guys.
I am stumped,please help.

Does it ever shift out, just delayed, or will it absolutely never shift?

I took it all the way to 5500 rpm & it did not shift.I think maybe something is installed wrong in the valvebody,what else could it be?
It shifts great by itself,I just can't shift it manually??

When it is in the drive position and you do a WOT shift from 1st to 2nd, at what rpm is the shift happening at? This may tell me what the problem might be. Do you happen to know which governor you have? Let me know and I will get back to you asap.

Check the TV cable, too. It's either that or the gov.

Hi Dana,I have no idea what governor is in it. I know this sounds dumb but I didn't pay much attention to the rpm it shifted at wot,The car has had the trans. out since last Sept. and I was so excited to be driving it again.I will drive it again this weekend and get back to you.Hopefully with your help I can get this sorted out.

If it shifts at 5,500 rpm at WOT, then moving the lever earlier than 5,500 rpm while in first gear, it will not shift until that rpm is attained. You cannot overide governor below the WOT shift point. If you want to do this (override governor) you will have to install a heavier governor than you have now.
Nothing is wrong, you will have to change governor if you want different results.

Thanks Dana! I believe I will leave it alone,5500 is agood shift point on my car.
