Ok. I was on the highway and i was going say 50 and i needed to go more like 80 so i stepped on the gas full throttle and the RPM's stayed stalling at like 2800. The car would not go any faster until i let go of the gas and tried picking up speed a little slower. then it picked up to 70 75 but it took a while and i had to hold the gas pedal soft. is my transmission messed up. It is an 89Rs with the 700R4 with about 175k miles or more. What should i do. There is aT-5 for sale on ebay for 305$ is that a good price.oh yeah it is a borg wagner.

A few questions: Is this an intermittant problem? What happens if you manually downshift the tranny when this occurs? When you go up to 70-75, what gear were you in? Did the tranny downshift when this happened or just stay in the same gear?

It is possible that the throttle valve stuck (common) and didn't relay your throttle position to the rest of the 'Decision Makers' inside the VB, therefore you didn't kick down (I am assuming here), acting much like a standard would if you floored it W/O downshifting.

An even rarer occurance is that the stator in the converter could have frozen but you normally wouldn't notice anything except that you can't go over @50 in 3rd.

If it DID downshift but you just stayed at those RPM's then you could very well have a fuel delivery problem. Post back with answers and we'll see what we come up with.
