Transmissions and Drivetrain Need help with your trans? Problems with your axle?

Car shifts 1-2 solid at part throttle but at WOT 1-2 is real soft....WHY???

Its an '89 700R4 with 60K miles?? Thrans in good working order with new fluid and filter.

Engine: 355 (fastburn heads, LT4 HOT cam)
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 9-bolt, 3.27
I would say that it is that way to keep it from breaking. At higher RPM's, you produce more power, and therefore ran a higher chance of breaking things when it shifts solidly.

Another reason is that there is more power, and that will cause it to be more difficult to stop components from spinning (when clutches and bands apply), sort of like when you mash the brake pedal at 80 MPH versus 25 MPH.

I had the same prob, nice firm part throttle shifts and 1-2 flare at wot. The band was severly burned/pitted and wore right into the rivets holding the friction paper on.
