3.42 or 3.73
What ratio do you think would work better in my car? The car has a 305 TPI in it, bored .030 over, comp cams 260/260 adv. duration .444/.444 lift 112 LSA, Hooker 2460's and matching Y-pipe, Flowmaster 80 series, and some other small modifications as well. The car is a 5 speed also. The car has 3.73's in it now, but I was wondering if I would be better off going to 3.42's so the car will hook up better. What do you think?

It might hook up better with the 3.42s, and run down the road a little easier, but you will loose a little snap.
What are you looking to do with the car...drag or road?
The difference will not be tremendous, more subtle, but you will notice.
I have 3.73s and like them because it has good jump. On a long interstate drive I get tired of listening to 2,500-3,000 Rs.

I daily drive the car but still want the "performance" for the street. I was just wondering what ratio would work better with my modifications. I've also heard a lot of people say that 3.73's are too much for TPI's because of the higher rpms.

Well for snappy street perormance, you'll want the 3.73s I guess. I used to street race mine a lot and it would scoot from stop lite to stop lite real nice, but I had a bigger carb and cam than you. I always liked how easilly I could light up the tires and ****** rubber in all four gears.

The 3.73's are your best bet. They offer more mechanical torque to make up for the 305's torque difference compared to a 350. They are also better for hooking up. With higher gears (numerically lower) once they start spinning they are harder to stop spinning (more RPM loss). You have more control with the lower gears.
