how safe is it to manually downshift a 700r4?

You're safe if you exercise some common sense. I downshift mine all the time... just remember that this puts strain on the whole drivetrain. If the wheels are squawking... you're doing it too hard.

On another note... anything obvious on your car? I'm in Brampton too. I've got a dark green/black 86TA with t-roofs and 96TA wheels. Look for it by the car show at City Centre
