What possible T-5 can possibly withstand the likes of my motor!!!!

Im doing a complete conversion of my 92' RS and im in need of a t-5. I almost got a richmond 6 speed, but the thing looked like $hit and i dropped it. I need a really good t-5, and my question is What year were T-5's more stronger. I bought an 85' T-5 and just by the looks of it, i dont think its gonna hold up to the mods i've done to my camaro. Are the T-5's in mustangs stronger than the t-5's in camaros. Will it fit in an f- body. Anyone selling a t-5 name your price.

Oh! let me reply before you have a coronary!

The Mustang version of the T5 won't have the right mounting pad for use in a camaro (among other things). The WC T5 would be your best bet for marginally higher torque capacity. It doesn't matter how strong it is, It's up to you to make it live. They're all gonna break if you strain them. I've built a lotta gearboxes. The result is always the same when the driver scrambles them with a bonehead move. Drive smart and MAKE it last

I thought I would add a warning to your rebuild plans.

My friend had an 86 Z28 with a T-5 and a 383... one day the clutch/flywheel let go while he was power shifting... the flywheel exploded, ricocheting off the pavement it cut through the frame rail, firewall, wiper blade and clutch pedal arm, finally stopping punched halfway through the hood. It missed his foot by 3"

The moral of the story here is to BUY A SCATTERSHIELD before your foot is hacked off in one gruesome chop.

or just buy an aftermarket clutch and flywheel. A stock cast iron flywheel and pressure plate is dangerous in a high powered car.

You're not going to find a strong T5. They're all weak. Either upgrade to a T56 or find an old Muncie 4 speed.

vortec buddy, do you still have that old T5? 'cause if you're planning on another one maybe i could buy it from you and see if i can make one out of two, i've put a 350 on my camaro and 3 weeks latter started to sound like grinding (pretty scary)
and yes i've read somewhere that the world class is good only up to 350 pounds/torque.

88+ has the world class T5. You arent going to find a stock T5 to handle that much torque. Get a T56 from an LT1 4th gen, or a Tremec T5, or a Richmond 6-speed.

The only T-5 that could last is one with a 6 at the end of it!

ahhh $hit. I was hoping my conversion was almost done. Every time i get something done, i end up with some type of bull$hit that i have to modify. I should of just bought a GEO metro. If ur still interested in the t-5 ill sell it to u. Im sure 92' T-5 are pretty strong, but they are rare so whats the best year i can get. I have Zoom muilti friction with pressure plate and disk, but im using stock resurfaced flywheel. Anyone got a WC T-5 that they want to get rid of. The 85' T-5 has 35,000 miles on it and its been in my garage ever since. Name your price.

Tim Burgess, moderator of the Electronics Board, is the original owner of a '92 Z28 305 with 5-speed. The car now has over 110k miles and is driven daily. I mention all this because he's been dynoed at 300 rwhp and 400 with 90-hp nitrous. He runs consistent low-12's and does full burnouts and 5,500 rpm launches. BTW, his T-5 has never given him problems and has never been rebuilt. Lucky? Maybe.... but you guys need to know that they can last.

Thanks Willie for bringing some reality back here. Seems everybody thinks they can kill a T5 with their "monster" engines. Maybe a little driving skill would do a tranny some good!

Im sure WC t-5 are great trannies, im just looking for one. What was the reason that GM didnt install T-5 tranny's on 350 camaros, oh yeah cause they couldnt handle the abuse of the 350's torque

So do you have a 92 V8 T-5? If so, that's about as good as it gets.

I have a 91 one behind my 400; since I wised up and quit treating it like a 4-speed, specifically learned to take my foot off the gas between gears, it has done much better.
