Is a ZF6 compatable?
Hey I found a ZF6 tranny out of a c4 vette. can this tranny work in my 83 camaro? will it bolt to my bellhousing or could I make an adapter plate? anybody have any experience with these?

Re: Is a ZF6 compatable?
It's not an ideal swap, but is possible with some parts/$/work..
From CHP:
To install it in a early Chevelle, for example, requires a Corvette bellhousing, flywheel, hydraulic clutch assembly, drive-shaft yolk, and a custom crossmember. The ZF is 2 inches longer and 3.5 inches taller, requiring the floorboard in the car to be heavily modified and making it a less-than-ideal candidate.

The T56 is almost a bolt in, so I'd say yes it's much easier.. It's also pretty well documented. The ZFs go pretty cheap, because no body wants them except LT1 corvette owners... YMMV

There are talks within Mcleod to make a direct fit bell for the ZF box. Problem is there were 3 different housings made. The ZR-1 housing, a magnesium L-98 housing and a Aluminum LT housing. All were different dimensions. Call Red Roberts at Mcleod (714) 630-2764 X 225 for more info.

Is the only thing holding this back from being a direct bolt in the right bellhousing?
Why is there not an adapter plate to bolt it to our bellhousing?

Re: Is a ZF6 compatable?
Id stick with a LT1 T56. bolt on, more recent design, can probably take the same amount of beating... if not more.

Re: Is a ZF6 compatable?
That and the T56 is easy to get parts for if needed. The ZF is d*mn near impossible to get parts for, especially if you need them fast. And they are scary expensive too. T56 parts are relatively cheap.
