Why is my tranny holding out / what are the stock shift points?
At the track today the tranny wouldn't shift until 5000 rpm. My (i think, well, must have been since it wont go into 4th at wot)2nd to 3rd shift would come about a hundred feet from the end of the track, i coudl feel the car slow down as it reached 5000rpm, and then the shift and it would start accelerating pretty hard again. But by that time i woudl be out of track. Is there a way to adjust when it shifts, without manually shifting it of course?
Does that seem right, to have the 2nd to 3rd shift so close to the end of the track? Unless me stock tranny has decided to shift into 4th at wot.....because it would shift, but i would be crossing the lineright after...
I would like to have seen whatever shift it was come sooner instead of waiting until the last 50 feet of the track, becasue it felt like i had more left in the car, but from 4500-5000 it just runs out of air....
did any of that make any sense?

You can't lower the WOT shift points by shifting manually. The proper way to change the shift points is by adjusting the weights and springs in the governor. You can by a kit for it.

Engine: 305 TPI peanut cam
Transmission: 700R4
My 86 TA 305 would shift into 3rd about 100-150 feet from the finish line. It would shift dead on 4600 rpm everytime too.
