3rd and 4th trouble
hi, im new to the camaro at the moment mine is a project
its a 1989 305 rs automatic.
but when i drove it 3rd and 4th or overdrive didnt work
the car has been sat around for a year and i dont know the last time it had an fluid change
is it a common problem? easy fixable? or will i need a new box?

the 3-4 clutch pack is in the input drum internal to the transmission. To replace the 3-4 clutches, steels, rubber, sealing rings, gaskets, etc. would require removing the transmission and tearing down the trans. You up to it?
I feel this trans isn't for beginners, but you never know. People have walked on the moon right?
Probably wouldn't require so much to get there with this trans but you get the idea.
If you can't fix the trans but can remove it-I'd do that and save some money IMO.
The nice thing about having someone else do the whole job is that they should warranty the labor as well if the trans was to go out within the warranty. Understand? Also they will diag the car correctly (if they are good).
pro is correct, the 3-4's are probably the issue as they hold in third and fourth gear.
