Kick Cable

I am looking at purchasing a 88 gta, but it has tranny problems, he says its just a kick cable, can anyone tell me what that is, the problems it causes and price to fix, I have no clue about trannys and the car is set at a good price so I am a little suspicious?

Re: Kick Cable

use your instincts, or call cleo. She has a crystal ball.
if someone says a 700r4 has a problem and it is a t.v. cable they might be correct or they might not. Have someone with you that knows how to adjust the t.v. cable and barter if a cable doesn't make a difference. It is easy to get to under the hood and normally has no issues just to let you know. bad 700r4's arent that uncommon and are expensive to fix properly-so obviously the "t.v. needs adjustment" trans needs diaged. properly.

Re: Kick Cable

yeah I would assume that the trans is bad and the person does not have the money to spend so they are pawning it off on you

tell the guy that your buddy is a trans specialist and he wants to check it out next week.

bluff a little

if the guy says no then presto

if he says yes then take a friend who just learned how to adjust the tv cable

https://www.thirdgen.org/detent

and see what happens

If I was a betting man he wont let a trans guy near the car

Re: Kick Cable

i will do that, he is not from my town so i don't know him really. imo, i don't think he is really old, maybe 20 or so. he only wants like 15-1700 for the car. even with a bad tranny the gta is worth that, but i want to drive it home so my plan is to get him to take it to a garage and tell me what wrong with it before i go so i can get it fixed there without having to rent a trailer and tow it home. thanks for the input guys i will keep you posted.

Re: Kick Cable

I just bought an '89 Gta with tranny problems. My problem was the parking gear didn't work so I eventually had my tranny rebuilt. After the rebuilt the mechanic told me I needed a new Tv detent cable. My cable was a little stretched which would have caused problems to my rebuilt tranny in the future. The kickdown cable cost me about $40. The tpi cable is longer than the carb. if you are looking for one. I would test drive the car to see how it shifts.
