Extra shifts
My transmission has a extra shift which makes it a five speed auto and it only happens at less than part throttle speed from a stop sign. Can someone explain this problem its kind of affecting the accelerating of my car.
Hi, I've been expericencing this same symptom for a while now and I've taken my car back to the place rebuilt it about 1 1/2 yr ago and he saids theres nothing wrong that their is an extra shift but I think he's giving me the run around.

Yeah, it's the torque convertor locking up. Depending on how I drive my car, it is a really firm engagement like another gear.
For the record, GM does make a 5-speed auto, they just don't put it in any of their own cars. I think it goes in a BMW or something like that. For the trivial minded, check out www.gmpowertrain.com
Some neat stuff there!
Look at the 4L60E. I was amazed at their rating for it!
