Name that noise

ok people, I just put a "new" trans into my 84 T/A and when I start the car.. all is well. When I kill the engine, there is a rubbing like sound comming from the front of the tranny. I think that maybe something is touching the inspection cover? That's kinda what it sounds like. The tranny was never put into gear other than neutral to get it off the ramps it was up on.

Also on that note is there a cheeper place the the dealership for the shift linkage? It's only $42 but if I can get one cheeper why not.

Well is something rubbing the inspection cover? If it sounds like that, then it probably is.

BTW I am going to assume for a moment that this is the same possible T-5 as in one of your other posts.

More than likely the inspection cover is behind the oil pan instead of clipped to its lip.

Well actually it's a 700r4. I'm gonna have to check the inspection cover when I get the shift linkage and torque arm bushings.

The closest auto zone is 30 minutes away. I guess I'm going to go to the dealer. I heard that most of the aftermarket linkages were too weak anyway.
