Stuck in drive all the time?

Hey all, I've been reading on google.. Random searches trying to find out this problem.. And really, none of the questions had been answered.. There were a few links to topics on this website, but it almost seemed like after the problem was fixed, no one posted what it was...

My car is stuck in drive all the time, no Neutral, No Reverse, and no Park... It shifts fine on the street from 1st to 4th no problem..

We removed the shift linkage, and a piece was broken (Where it goes into the center console, a plastic piece) So we epoxied it back into place. Put it all back together, and still the same issue. I'm gonna open it up sunday, or monday as I'm painting tommorow.. Any ideas would be much obliged..

Thanks KP.

Re: Stuck in drive all the time?

Do like Sherlock Holmes and start eliminating what it's not. It's not the shifter, you epoxied that. Next is the shift cable, then the bracketry on the outside of the trans, then dropping the pan and examining the S-link. If all of that checks out, then it's time to drop the valvebody and check the gaskets. If those weren't failed, then the valvebody itself is next. If that's not it, time to either replace the trans. If that isn't it, call the Ghostbusters.

Re: Stuck in drive all the time?

Sounds like fun... I'm hoping there's a little bit of something holding up the 'drive' check valve.. Maybe it'll fix itself..

I hate dropping the pan on these things.. It's an ATF shower..

Re: Stuck in drive all the time?

Yeah, but only the first time. B&M's drain plug kit is well worth the $6.

Re: Stuck in drive all the time?

I bought the 4" deep B&M pan with the drain plug.. Best $35 EVER. I'm just wondering if the hook piece came out of the valve body to pull it in and out of gear.

I think that's the S-link.

Re: Stuck in drive all the time?

I bet it popped out.. Would make sense because the parking pawl goes in no problem, but it still has power like it's in drive.. I'll check it tommorow when it comes home from the paint shop..

Re: Stuck in drive all the time?

I have the exact same issue with mine right now. That is right before the winter anyways. I was hoping (still am), that I dont totally need a new tranny. Can you post what you found it out to be?

My shifter just floats throughout the gears, if I try to put it in any 'gear' it doesnt 'click' into place. But it drives fine, I just have to pull the e-brake and park it.
