Rear end noise when you shake car from side to side

Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3.42
Rear end noise when you shake car from side to side

Hi im new to this forum and i got a 1990 firebird and my rear end seems to make a noise when i push it from side to side and i was wondering if maybe it needed bearings i replaced the wheel bearings but that didnt help its a 10 bolt non posi 3.73 gears thanks

You are probably hearing the axles moving against the c clips and cross shaft. There is probably some wear on the thrust washers behind he axle gears and on the c clips that has increased the clearances in the rear end. It's not anything to worry about as long as the axles don't move more than 1/8 inch. Have you been doing one wheel burnouts? This will damage the thrust washers and cross shaft.

I dont know much history on the car my dad bought it off of a guy 3 years ago and it sat in the back for 4 years and then i bought it off of my dad can the cross shaft and thrust washers be replaced?

Yes, they can be replaced. You might want to just replace the complete differential with a new Eaton posi.

I would check the panhard bushings, before tearing into the rearend. At least you can check those without ever turning a wrench. If your skinny enough, you don't even hafta jack the car up!

I had look under the car today and the panhard bushings are worn but would that make the tires vibrate a little when i push the car from side to side?

Very well could, by not controlling the sideways movement, induced by steering left/right & road irregularities.
