First, a little history. The name Shift Kit is a registered trademark of TransGo. TransGo was started in 1959 with the intention of finding the causes of complaints and failures in a particular transmission and converting that info into a kit that could be installed in the tranny.
You would be surprised that a true Shift Kit does NOT make hard shifts and is intended for passenger car and light truck use. They spend sometimes years researching a tranny to see what it does right and what it's weak points are before they can finally offer a Shift Kit for it. They also make a Reprogramming Kit which uses the Shift Kit for a particular tranny and adds HP/HD capability, and yes firmer shifts too. They generally speaking will give you the ability to select any lower gear or hold a gear to any speed with the shifter.
B&M and the like, on the other hand always have the same goal in mind: Hard Shifts. To accomplish this they have a set formula that gets applied to every transmission. A) Block or limit the smoothing devices (accumulators). B) Jack up the line pressure. C) Hog out the feed holes. The result is always hard shifts but often that has nothing to do with WHY a tranny fails and is more a RESULT of another problem causing soft, slipping shifts.

I installed the TransGo kit about 3 weeks ago and love it so far. However I only installed 2 washers in the accumulator and it doesnt shift as hard as I would like, but dont get me wrong it still shifts hard. I am going to add another washer hopefully very soon. But I do love being able to chirp the tires from 1st to 2nd. Great investment.
my friends installed a B&M in his 92RS and it actually caused the 2nd and 4th gear thingy to break, i take it that Transgo wont cause this.
and is it as easy to install as is B&M, just time consuming, and who sells TransGo's i cant find any. and for how much.
thanks guys!
and with 108,000 on the trans will it hurt it at all i dont really have the money to replace the trans right now if it blows.
thanks

Stay on the conservative side on hole sizes. They give you two sets of gaskets if you need to make it firmer on the shifts. If you have the 554 casting Servo (don't use on anything)I would get the V8 Servo, 553 casting, or the Vette Servo but you don't have to in most cases. If your TV Boost valve is smaller than .422" you must change that too. Larger is OK but again in most cases the .422" (standard V8 on the earlier 700's, they went smaller on the later ones).

I might be wrong on this but doesn't something have to be drilled with the trans go kit as well? I think that is what my tranny shop put in but they did a terrible job with it. Make sure if you don't do it your self you get someone that is good to do it. I wish I had have found this site before I did a lot of the things I did. transfixleo and probuilt among others have given lots of good info.
