Axle issue with 4 gen, movement?

I was moving my car when I noticed that if I push on the side of the car, it would move and make a bit of a pop. I got under the car and there is nothing loose that I can find, but I noticed that if I pull on the axle it moves in and out, not very much, but a little, is this normal? Everything is tight, the wheel is tight, the backing plate too, I have no idea if this is correct or not? Any help appreciated

It shouldn't move any more than the thickness of a dime.

That is almost exactly how far it moves, why is that?

Re: Axle issue with 4 gen, movement?

The axles are held in with c-clips, not bolted in with flanges, so there is some play in the groove that the c-clip fits in. Perfectly normal for SOME play.

If it has an Auburn differential then the axle end play will increase as the wear increases n the Auburn. It's nothing to worry about. Most GM rear ends have some axle end play.
