Quick question. I've got an 85 z28 with a 5-speed the previous owner blew the original 305 and swapped in a 305 out of a 1990 camaro. He said he replaced the clutch and the flywheel when he did that. The current 305 just got a rod knock so I'm buying a pre-86 (I believe around 1977) 350 to drop in for a performance boost too.

My question is will the flywheel off my 1990 305 work on my pre-86 350? will the clutch?

No, the later style flywheel won't work. When GM changed to a 1-piece rear main seal for '86, they changed the bolt pattern on the rear of the crank, and added a balance weight to the flywheel.

 

okay well i found a flywheel for a 2-peice rear main seal would i be able to use the clutch off my 1990 for that flywheel?

 

I am pretty curious about that too.

I asked the same question in the Engine Swap board and five7kid said that if you got the flywheel off of a 83-85 f-body the clutch will wrk.
