700 to a T-5 swap...need info please....

Hey all,

I checked in the archives but couldn't see anything regarding changing my 700 auto to a T-5....only a T-56.

I have a 91 RS with a 305 TBI and 700 auto. I'm getting all of the T-5 parts out of a 91 305 car and had a couple of questions that need to be answered.

1) Will I have to get a starter for a manual car? or can I use the starter that is with my auto now?

2) Will I have to get a different cross member than my auto cross member now?

3) Will I need a different driveshaft or can I use the one that's with my auto now? Are the yolks different or anything?

I think that's all I need to ask. I'm getting the flywheel, trans, bellhousing, clutch fork, slave cylinder with rods, pedals, shifter, clutch disk and pressure plate (even though I'll buy new).

I also know I have to get a pilot bearing, so that's not a problem.

Please let me know if I missed anything. I don't want to get all of these parts and find out I need a ton of more stuff that I don't have. Thanks for your time!

Cya on the streets....

I have done the swap myself and can answer your questions... I re-used my starter that was in the car, but it was a replacement starter that I picked up from Napa auto parts, so I can't be 100% sure it was the same one (auto/stick), all I know is that it worked. The driveshaft is going to be the same, crossmember, and torque arm are the same. I picked up those parts before my swap, later to find they are the exact same. The torque arm bracket that mounts to the rear of the tranny was differant in my case and I assume they are that way in all swaps, so look into that before you tear everything apart. The swap is very easy to do, just take your time and it will be a good experiance.I spent all of 11 hours total to finish mine and I did not rush it, the only help I had was from my wife holding a wrench while I tightened a few bolts. Feel free to e-mail me if you need any other answers.
