The FAQ should be somewhat helpful:

go to a junk yard and pull a rear off of a camaro that already has one in it. Much easier and requires no special tools : )

True, but finding one with 3.73's might be difficult--if that's a ratio that's important to 10second.

Re: POSI! I want it...

Ya, i would like to keep my 3.73's. I read the article, it was helpful, i was wondering what all parts would i need. Say i get a 3 series carrier with 3.73s (?) and 28 spline axles, what else would i need to complete the conversion?

haha, this isn't going into the 10 second range, high 13's with headers and posi if i'm lucky. 265/50/r15 radial T/A's that are bald and are harder than hell to find new ones lol. I'm just going to upgrade to 28 spline from my 26 spline.

Re: POSI! I want it...

Yes you can it states 28 spline axles. I know for sure they will work on a 91 due to mine bein a 92 with the same exact drivetrain. The 26 spline axles are smaller in dia. than the 28 splines. I do not believe there is any difference in the axle housings themselves from 26 to 28.

Re: POSI! I want it...

Also if you like doing burnouts and just playin around another good investment would be some C-clip eliminators. That way if you break something the axles will not come out of the housing. Yes the posi carrier comes with new carrier bearings and races, C-clips, new cross shaft bolt and new ring gear bolts.

Those axles would work granted the rear end has never been swapped out.

Take care that the used axles aren't unduly worn where the bearing rides or eventually the seals will leak. You could install off-set bearings, however, to avoid that situation, at least for a while.

I'll see what it looks like when i take it out, so they make off set bearings that would prevent leaking if they were a bit worn down?

Re: POSI! I want it...

If they are worn why waste the time, just get replacements and do the job 1 time. It is costly to rebuild an axle assembly and time consuming. Not to mention you by the offset bearings and new seals they may work for a while then you will end up buying new bearings and seals a second time when they go to leaking again along with new axles.

Re: POSI! I want it...

True, if they are worn i will buy new axles. Those C-clip eliminators are recommended on Strange axles only, is that true, if so what do strang axles run? What about a Strange 12 bolt rear end?

Re: POSI! I want it...

If the origanal bearing and seal surface of the axel lasted 15 years, then just relocating the bearing and seal to a fresh spot of the axel will last a good longtime! The offset bearings are just barely any more than regular new bearings and seals, and you should put new bearings in it weather or not you buy used or new axels.

aftermarket axels for a 7.5 10 bolt seem a little silly to me, considering that a good 28 spline axel is about 10 times stouter than a 7.5 inch ring gear.

Re: POSI! I want it...

A strange 12 bolt is pretty damn costly! You are looking at 2479.99 for a complete unit minus the backer plates and brake assemblies and those come with the 33 spline axles (super strength) the standard 12 housing with axles and bearings and seals are 1495.00 but that is no carrier or ring and pinion.

Re: POSI! I want it...

Most c clip eliminators are not recommended for street use. They are designed for a car that will be drag raced. The bearings are small and not able to handle much side loads from corners. They also tend to leak oil onto the brakes.

I would get a good set of 28 spline axles and a new Eaton posi. The Eaton posi is $435. A set of bearings and shims are $45. That's all that you need to add it to your rear end. I also have instructions for installing it. If the car won't be getting into the 11s then c clip eliminators are not needed. That rebuilt posi on ebay is a Governor Lock. I don't recommend using one of those in a performance car. They have a loty of small parts in them that break easily and cause it to quit working. They are fine in a stock Gm truck, which is what they came out of.

As for the 12 bolt, I can get you a new Moser for $2225. I know that's still high, but cheaper than $2400.

Re: POSI! I want it...

Finding a used Eaton Posi is going to be hard becasue GM didn't install them in any of the 7.5 rear ends.

Re: POSI! I want it...

So i've heard, i'm not in a huge hurry to get it at the moment, the headers and exhaust will take up the next week or so in time, and next paycheck is going to tires. After that i am tinting the windows and possibly repainting the trim so the cars all black, and blacking out the rims. after that though i was hoping to find some posi, what about a 4 gen posi unit??

Yes. As long as the axles are 28, yes. You might wish to reread the link in post #2 where all this is covered.

Re: POSI! I want it...

This will help with a swap from a standard differential to a posi. http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showth...t=install+posi This is for the 8.5 rear end, but the 7.5 is the same.
