gear end bearing

I think I have a bad bearing in my car's rearend. I can move the yoke coming out of the rearend up and down a little, and when driving I hear bad noises when I hit bumps.

How much will it cost to get those bearings fixed on my existing rearend? I'm guessing a junkyard rear will be cheaper but I just wanted to see if anybody would have an idea.

Usually bumps won't cause a bearing noise, it will be constant. If that bearing has been loose for a long time it may be damaged. What does the noise sound like? A junkyard rear probably needs bearings as well.

The sound is like a loud rattle, like something heavy is loose. I got the car about 2 years ago, it did it then. I only drove it 4 months before the motor went, I got it back on the road last month.

Check your tranny mount.

The noise is under the back seat. The tranny mount seems alright.

Found the big clunk. It isn't the rear end making that noise. It's the panhard bar, it's joint has play in it.
