Speedo gear keeps backing out...

I had my 3.73 gears and limited slip diff. installed yesterday, and I had them put in the speedometer gears.. The speedo works for about 15 minutes and then bounces from 40 to 0 then just sits at 0. I have taken it back to them 3 times because of this, is there anything I can tell them that may prevent it from being taken back a 4th time?? Is it possible to put the clip in backwards or in the wrong hole so that it would work for a bit then just break?

They broke 2 clips already and I don't know or not if the 3rd clip is broken.. Also, this is the 3rd time that the driveshaft and tailhousing has been taken off, a little bit of tranny fluid comes out each time, the first 2 times I didn't add any more, should I add more this time since it's almost a significant cup of fluid??

Thanks

Check out www.sethirdgen.org/vss.htm

Sometimes the most competent mechanic is
yourself. I have put MANY of those clips
on, and don't remember even ONE breaking.

The speedo gear is a VERY tight fit, and you almost don't even need the clip to hold it on there, however I wouldn't reccomend leaving it off. I wonder if they are possibly sanding the inside if the gear to aid installation? I have yet to break a clip myself. Maybe thats a sign of the quality of work they do.

I had that problem on my TH350 after I had it rebuilt. They didnt get the clip installed fully and it popped out after two days. When you install the clip and gear, make sure the clip "clips" in place in the gear. On mine, I had to tap on it quite hard for it to fully seat itself in the gear. Also make sure the little tab on the clip sits fully in the hole on the output shaft.
