i got an estimate for a new transmission for my 91 trans am gta manual TBI 305 and it was like 2000$ before labor. should it cost this much or should it be less.

 

It sounds like a lot to me. You can get a tremec for like 1700 hundred maybe even less. And you are getting a stock ta tranny I assume. Maybe somone else has some opinions on this too. I would be wary. Good luck.

Ummmm... thats too much I think. Get a T56 6-speed from a 4th gen for about $1500. Stronger, cheaper, etc. BTW- They NEVER made a TBI GTA. What's the deal?? Later

I agree with GTA91. I wouldn't invest any money in the 5speed. Buy the 6 speed and invest that way. You will be much happier and it will increase the value of your car and the gas mileage. T-56 is much stronger than T-5. If a T-56 can withstand a Viper V-10 then it can handle a small block.
