Engine: 305tbi

Transmission: 700r4

Axle/Gears: 3.27 9bolt

speedo stopped working. engine light came on

so my speedometer stopped working today and shortly after i realized my check engine light was on. my car has the Vehicle speed sensor. i just changed both the driven and drive gear do to a different rear ratio. is it safe to belive that the speed sensor is causing the light to be on?

Pull the code if your SES is on. THen you will know what that code is. If your SES light is on you know something is wrong. Could be the speed sensor or it could be something completely different. You wont know till you have that code number.

I'd bet on the VSS or gears, since you just changed them, and the speedo stopped working, then the SES light came on.

Pull the VSS out and check the gears.
