Trans in 91-92 any different than other 3rd gens??

I have heard that 91-92 f-bodies got 4L60E's or 4L60 can't remember. Is this true? are these transmissions any better than a 700-R4's or are they the same?
I have heard the 1-2 upshift in a 700-R4 is very sluggish, but the 1-2 upshift in my 91 seems very good, maybe it's just my imagination.

In 1991-1992, GM changed the name from 700-R4 to 4L60. It was strictly a name change. The "E" version is has its shifting controlled electronically instead of "manually", but NO 3rd Gen got the "E" version.

Internally, there were quite a few updates and the 1992 is the best version installed stock on a 3rd Gen. 1992s do not have the "WOT upshift problem from 3rd-4th" that plagued the 700-R4s, also some 1991s got it too.

Of ALL the versions of the 700-R4/4L60, the GM Re-man (SRTA) is the best. It has all the latest updates and is slightly stronger. It has all the internals of the 4L60E, in a 700-R4/4L60 case. It is STILL a "manually" controlled transmission rather than "electronically" controlled.

Thanks for the info, one other ?
When I hit the pedal aggressively the trans has a hard jolt it does this in first gear, and when it shifts into second, but not on the other gears, both my 89 and my 91 Camaros do this, is this normal? Is it hard on the trans? I heard something about a cushioning spring?
