TTA tranny

Why was the TTA tranny different from the 700r4? Can the 700R4 handle the torqe or power why did they use anything different. Just curious.

The bell housing bolt pattern of the 700 is incompatible with the Buick 3.8 turbo motor.

The TH200-R4 that the TTA comes with has a dual pattern bell housing so that it can be mated to Buick, Pontiac, Olds and Chevy motors.

I ditched the TH200C in the wife's 83 TA for a TH200-R4. Gained 5mpg...! Other then the cross member modification, it's a bolt in.

the reason they used a 200 was ease of innstallation(same bolt pattern and the 200 has less of a drop from 1st to 2nd keeping the turbo spining where it wants to

The 2004R is slightly stronger than the 700R4, has a better gear ratio spread, and is about one mph faster & and a tenth quicker in the quarter mile. I have built many of each, and when set up correctly the 2004R can hold a pretty good amount of horsepower. There are many mid nine second Gran National's running the 2004R successfully. If you have any questions concerning your unit, give me a call or email me at probuilt1@earthlink.net, 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 11-7 PST.
Hope This Helps!!!
