2 years an I am so close need T-5 help!!!!!!
I tried to install my T5 tranny from an 89 305 TBI onto a 88 350 TPI engine this weekend. But the tranny shaft where the throwout bearing rides hits the clutch disc while the bell housing still has about 2" left to go before it makes contact with the engine. Any ideas?????
All you can do is keep working it in there. I am seventeen, and replaced my clutch earlier this summer. It was a real bear to get that trans back in, especially when working alone. Make sure you are not getting hung up on anything and try to get the shaft straight in. Good Luck.

i just did this swap, and had the same problem...... it was the P.O.S brass pilot bearing. i must have oblonged it while installing into the crank. either way i changed it to a steel roller bearing and it went together like "butter". Good luck, THE SHAGGY IROC

I did the a4 -> m5 swap this past winter, and spend about an hour trying to get the thing lined up right, using a floor jack to support it. as the trans is only about 75? pounds, i ended up getting bodily under the transmission and hefting it into position. this worked within 1 - 2 minutes. i ended up with a badly scratched up tunnel, but i love rowing my own with the T5. now, im not recommending this method for anyone cause its entirely possible to get hurt, but just sharing what worked for me. its all a matter of what you can get to work for you, although im not looking forward to dropping that guy again anytime soon.
