Re: posi rear end question
you can weld the spider gears, but it make it like a spool. it will lock both wheels together all the time.
Re: posi rear end question
The Eaton posi is the best differetnial for most GM cars. It's $445 plus shipping. You will need a set of br=earings and shims to install it. They are $45. I have instructions on installing it.
Don't weld the differetnial. This is very dangerous.

Re: posi rear end question
YES GO WITH THE POWERTRAX i put one in and its better than any limited slip unit no clutches to wear and you dont have to reset up your gears.it locked both my wheels together 2 great black marks and no binding in the turns either great product.just make shure you find out if you have the 7.5 or the 7.625 thats the only hold up i had

Re: posi rear end question
If your tight on money....get on ebay and buy a posi unit out of a 3rd gen, I believe '84 uses 26 spline....I don't know for sure what year they went to 28-spline. I am currently using a 4th gen gear set and posi that works great that I believe I spent $100 on. Just an idea, but really read the ads, and check their feedback close, you don't want a worn out rear end....just some food for thought for ya...

Re: posi rear end question
yea summit or i got mine from jegs..ill tell ya how to tell the diff in the 7.5 and the 7.625 firstly yea from what iv seen most f bodys have the 7625 but all you have to do to tell is look at your carrier well look on the ringear first mine was stamped right on it 7-5/8 12-41 the 12-41 are my ring and pinion teeth count.Divide them and you get 3.42 and the 7-5/8 is the 7.625 if it were 7.5 it would have been 7-1/2 and you can also tell the diff by looking at the carrier(what the ring gear bolts to)the 7.5 will have the same windows or openings on each side where you can get at the spider gearsThe 7.625 what you probly have(they came out in most camaros firebirds TAs ect) it will have only 1 big window or opening to get at the spiders youll see what i mean when you look at one ohh yea dont forget to count the axle splines also lol they should be 26 hes right about 28 in the 90s

Re: posi rear end question
If you truly have an 84 305 HO with T-5, then you have 3.73's. If you're unsure, check the following link:

Re: posi rear end question
Anyone know if a 7.5 26 spline mini spool will work in a 7.625 carrier?

Re: posi rear end question
How much is the powertrax or w/e it is?
I need a posi too, but I'm only willing to spend up to like 300, 400 max.
There are some rear ends being sold for cheaper than that in the classifieds that have posi in them.
I would prefer to get a new rear end all together that has disc brakes and perhaps a better gear ratio than stock, but if anyone can show me a cheap way of converting my stock rear end to a posi i'll listen.
Stock '90 RS 305
10 bolt rear end, i believe it's a 28 spline axle (i'm pretty sure they changed them to 28 spline in '90).
I dunno what the carrier number is or what the carrier even is, anyone want to enlighten me on this real quick?

Re: posi rear end question
Powertrax no slip is almost like a posi rear much much closer to a spool. The slightsest bit of torque and it locks up instantly. Takes a couple drives to get use to it. A decent set of gears will cost around $200.

Re: posi rear end question
Alright thanks ummm when it locks up that means both wheels are spinning the same right? And if I were to burnout would I be doing a two wheel peel then? And does the powertrax affect gas mileage? And what's the differeence between a posi rear end and a powertrax unit? And is it hard to change out the gears?

Re: posi rear end question
Yes, when it locks up both wheels are spinning. And if you burn out then both wheels will light up at the same time. Powertrax dosent effect any gas mileage but a gear change will. Difference between a posi and powertrax is that posi and power trax is more torque sensitive and untimately locks up into a spool. Just the slightest hit of the gas pedal and it locks up. This means in corners, trying to park, ect.Where a regular posi wouldnt. You dont change out the gears you change the spider gears which the power trax takes the place of. Everything else stays put.

Re: posi rear end question
Alright thanks would you prefer the powertrax or a posi rear end? And does the power trax make It harder to go around corners? What about parking is that harder with it and so if I were to get a power trax and then in the future decided to change the spider gears can the power trax still be used on the new gears?

Re: posi rear end question
The no slip is a better version of the power trax locker. The locker is very jerky and noisy for the street. The no slip has springs in it to be smoother.

Re: posi rear end question
First... A Locker should not be used on a street driven car.
Second...There are different designs of Limited Slips and not all use springs.
Again a lot of mis- info on your part.

Re: posi rear end question
You need to learn how to read. I never said anything about a limilted slip. I'm talking about the lock right and the no slip in which richmond gear make.
