slight wihing out of richmond gear

i just installed a 3.73 ring and pinion by richmond. followed all the directions and backlash is right. and so is pinion depth. i drove the car and i get a slight whining noise above 12-13 mph. it only whines when l accelerate coasting it's dead silent, and braking its dead silent. turning hard right it makes a slight whining, but hard left it doesnt make any noise. is this normal? l ran it for 10 miles and brought it home. l felt the diff and it wasnt unusually hot. in fact it was normal temp. is this a normal noise?

Yes. Richmond sacrifices noise for reliability. These gears are meant for race cars, not your grandmothers caprice.

I have Richmond 3.73's also... they whine too. After you break them in, change the lube to synthetic, either Redline or similar, use GM Posi lube with it. The Posi lube with the synthetic lube lessens the noise. At least it did for me

Those all whine a little bit, it sounds to me like yours is OK and you did a good job. Like the other posts said, the Richmonds trade off a little noise for extra strength.
