1992rs rearend question?
I have a 1992 rs.....I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they put limited slips and posi in all the 25th anniversary cars. I have already tried all the tricks about spinning a wheel one way, and just seeing if it will leave two black marks. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I know if has 308 gears.
Very simple solution, jack the back of the car up (so back wheels can spin freely), pop it into neatral, and spin one of the wheels. If the other wheel turns in the same direction, you have posi, if it spins in the other you have either open or a burned up posi (just as bad as open diff.)
Anyways you prolly have open diff. as most RS's and Firebirds got open while the TA's and Z'28's got posi/limited slip.

I jacked the car up once before....in neutral when one tire was spun the other did nothing. When the car was in gear...they spun in opposite directions. I thought that was the open rear. then a friend was telling me that it may not be. he said if the clutches were not engaged to make both wheels spin it would look like and open rear. I know nothing of rears and don't know what it should do. thanks for the help

If the wheels ever can spin in opposite directions, it's not a posi. The clutched in the posi system in one of these cars is spring loaded, it's always engaged. The ones in teh S trucks ar ea little different; they use little weights to work the clutches, based on the RPM difference between the 2 axles.
The only totally positive way to be sure however is to take the cover off and look. Which you obviously need to do, because you haven't ever done it, so your fluid needs to be changed. Good excuse to go exploring. Put in some synthetic lube such as Mobil 1. It will pay for itself in fuel consumption within 5 tanks fo gas.
