T-56 Borgwarner/Tremic

My friends is looking to put a T-56 in his 3rd gen. Now is there a differnce betweeen any of the T-56's over the past decade? I had always thought that the T-56 where made by borgwarner. But when we pulled my friends trans in his 2000 WS-6 Trans Am it says Tremic on it. Did they use beter T-56's in some of the SS Camaros or WS-6 Trans Ams? Thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me

As far as I know tremec is made by borgwarner. And there are different gear ratios for the T56 that came with different year 4th gens, I think some came with a 2.56 first and some with around a 2.9X first gear, but I dont know the exact numbers.

So are you saying that all the T-56 are Tremecs?

Here's how it goes: in 1993, there were two BW T56's (a 2.97:1 and a 3.36:1) from 1994 up there is only one (2.66:1) sometime in 1996-7 TTC automotive (makers of Tremec, Dana, and Spicer) bought the transmission division of Borgwarner. So the transmissions are still coming from the same place with the same tooling, just different ownership... hope this helps. Also the LS1 trans will not fit on the small block.
