A Little problem with pulling the tranny - Please Help!
Hey everybody,
I started pulling the 700R4 from my parts car today. I disconected all the lines, driveshaft, bell-housing bolts but the problem is I can't disconnect the Torque Converter bolts. The engine is siezed and to get all the converter bolts you have to able to turn the flywheel a full circle (and I can't do that). As far as I know the converter's attached to teh flywheel with 3 or 4 bolts, right?
Anyways how would you recommend gettting the converter off with a siezed engine. Is it possible?
My other option is to just take the tranny off and leave the converter in, but I am not looking forward to a tranny fluid bath plus the guy said the converter was a new aftermarket replacement...
Any help would be very appreciated,

Put a couple of long bolts in the harmonic balancer and get a big pipe or bar and try to force it to turn or pull the motor/tranny and take the oil pan off then take off what rod caps you can get to and just keep trying to turn it. It can be a b*tch.

try removing the spark plugs and see if the engine will rotate if not drop the oil pan and loosen the main or rod or both til the motor starts to turn no other way good luck better you than me
I clamp a pair of 10" Vise-Grips around the ring gear on the flexplate and push them
with my foot. Use real Vise-Grips ( I have
broken other brands) and wrap
some strong tape around the handles so you won't accidently release them while pushing
on them.

I went through this situation... a friend had an '89 Camaro with a 2.8. It's oil pan cracked and he seized the engine. He bought a 2.8 for $100, so we did a 2.8-for-2.8 swap.
We unbolted the trans from the engine, and lifted the engine out. As the engine lifted, the convertor popped off the trans input shaft. The engine swung forward- but we were prepared, we removed the radiator.
Two out of three flexplate-to-convertor bolts were exposed. We couldn't get any wrench or socket or etc on the 3rd bolt, the block was in the way. To get the third, my friend used a sawzall to cut the flywheel enough to get a box wrench in there. We cut one long slit in the flywheel, then pried it back. Cutting through the ring gear took the longest.
If that didn't work, we were going to drop the pan and (hopefully) drop the crank down; assuming the crank wasn't melted to the block.
I know you don't want to pull the engine, though. Maybe if you get the trans out (by tilting the engine backward? Don't let it land on you when the convertor pops off the input shaft), you can work with a saw or cut-off-tool underneath the car.
