TCI Controller 4L60E Problem
When I installed the 4L60E in my car I retained the VSS off of the 700R4. I hooked both the 7730ECM and the TCI controller to the same VSS signal off the transmission. Problem is apparently there is not enough "juice" to drive both units. ECM and speedo works but the TCI does not see the signal.
Couple of things that might work. One, is there a buffer available to amplify the VSS signal out of the transmission?
Two. The TCI controller has an orange wire for speedometer output. So If I was to only use the transmission VSS output for the TCI controller how would one tie in the orange wire to the 7730 ECM? Would you just tie it into the VSS input? If you tied it into the output the speedometer would work but the ECM would never see the signal and probably set a code and you could not record for data logging.
Problems, problems, problems.

Re: TCI Controller 4L60E Problem
Update: I have talked to the technicians at TCI, F.A.S.T. and Comp Cams regarding the TCI transmission controller. Got three different answers regarding the VSS signal. But did get tidbits of info. After a ton of research I think this is what I have to do.
Cannot use the 700R4 VSS 4000ppm signal for the TCI TCU no matter what two of the techs said would work. I will have to use the 4L60E VSS with the 40 tooth reluctor. I have both the reluctor and VSS signal generator from a 4L60E already so nothing to buy there. I cannot see anyway the TCI TCU would recognize both signals. They are way different on a magnitude of at least 10 or more.
That should get the TCI TCU working and controlling my transmission. Next is to get the proper signal to the 7730 ECM. There are a couple of ways to do that if I buy the Dakota Digital Box. So barring further information that is the plan of attack.

Re: TCI Controller 4L60E Problem
The Dakota Digital box came in today. The box is relatively small and should fit under the dash quite easily. It measures 3 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 7/8".
When I get things installed and working I will post in a separate thread all that needs to be done to swap a 4L60E into a 3rd gen using the TCI controller.

Re: TCI Controller 4L60E Problem
Nice, Right now I'm building a manual shift 4l60E for a similar install. So the reluctors are different tooth count 700r4v.s. 4l60e? as a note the shift kit to make them manual is expensive and lengthly, so just doing it the right way and wiring everything up seems like the more logical thing to do for me in the future.

Yes the reluctor count is way different. I have seen posted as high as 128000ppm for the 4L60E reluctor versus 4000ppm for the 700R4. I feel that is probably right. I will know today for sure as the car is on the rack and the 4L60E speedo unit is being installed.

The rest of the story is in this post and a happy ending.
