bent axle??
Well basically i was going around a turn hit some wet pollon (i hate allergy season) on the road and the back end went out an touched the curb and now if i drive behind the car an look at the wheel it seems to wobble very slightly but deffidently noticeable. my wheel is fine no air leaks it seems as if its just alittle scratched. I dont have much cash right now and im just wondering how hard it would be to just swap out this rear with one from a junkyard and is there anything small things I should worry about?

Re: bent axle??
I had the same thing with a wobble. It ended up being a very slight bend in the axle. Put it on the concrete floor, rolled it, and saw that it wasn't straight. Good luck.

Re: bent axle??
Swap rear wheels. If the wobble follows the wheel, the wheel is bent. If it stays on the same side, your axle flange is bent. Wheels usually bend easier than the axle flanges, but not always.

Re: bent axle??
Yea check the wheel first. And if you are strapped for cash and need an alternative im pretty sure its going to be cheaper to replace the axle then getting a new rear end. It happened to me, i couldnt fix it myself so i had my mechanic do it, i dont have the time while im at college. Cost me like 75shipped for the axle and about 150 in labor/parts to get the axle swapped. Thats with all new bearings and seals also. If you wanna go that route and have a 9 bolt PM me i have a set of axles from my old 9 bolt i let you have what one you need at a decent price.

Re: bent axle??
well i swapped the wheels left it in the air an put it in drive and it wobbles still so its most likely the axle. ahh i think swapping axles is gonna be harder than swapping the rear cuz from what i understand its just a direct bolt in i can prob do in the drive way without any fancy tools. it looks like all i have to do is just jack it up put some jack stands under it then put the jack under the diff and unbolt everything from it then lower the jack and just put the new rear in.

I was saying that you might want to look into it cost wise. Depending on your rear end of course. But most JYs charge like 300 dollars for a rear end, unless you find one cheaper from someone on here, or already have one it cost me 65$ for an axle and about 150 for labor to have my mechanic install it. 215$ is less than 300$ and you dont have to do the work for it.
Installing any rear is a bolt in job(from a 3rd or 4th gen) and i did mine in my garage, takes about 3-4 hours maybe to swap from start to finish.

Re: bent axle??
While the above is true, you may have issues with the proportioning valve, e-brake cables, and speedo gears. If you haven't checked the sticky at the top of the page, you might consider it. There's also a sticky there detailing the axle swap. Not difficult--and less labor intensive than swapping rears, IMO.

Re: bent axle??
Mine had a bent axle before I bought it. I can't remember the whole story, but the guy got it sideways on the interstate. He told me that he had it straightened at a machine shop. I haven't noticed any wobbling since I''ve had it.

Re: bent axle??
Just go to the wrecker and get another used axle . Make sure the area where the bearing rides isn't all chewed up or it may be noisy . Just put a dial on the axle to make sure the housing isn't bent but it's usually the axle .

Re: bent axle??
I just replaced the rear end in my iroc yesterday!, and it loves it! I had both axles bent, not the wheels. The original was a 2:73, and I swapped for a 3:42, and it really performs much better, w/o the shimmy, and watusi... I need to replace the tranny gear so my speedo reads right..

Re: bent axle??
If the housing isn't bent just change the axle . It should only take an hour and you'll change the gear oil at the same time , bonus !
