Bent Axle

Well I Have A Bent Axle On My 88' 9 Bolt BW Rear End. Well What Would You Guys Recommend. Replacing The Axle Shaft? Is It Too Much Work Or Even Worth It? Take In To Account That I Have No Experince With Rear Ends. Or Pull A Newer Rear End? If So What Year and Type. 10 bolt? Thanks In Advance. All Suggestions Are Welcome

Well, first and foremost, find out WHY the brakes dont work. Is fluid getting back there properly? are the calipers just not engaging? If the problem is in the axle side, not master or prop valve, I would recommend you go for a newer SS rearend. the ss comes with either 3.42 or 3.73 posi, Disc rear, will drop right in(I think the axle tubes are about 1/2" longer on each side, so your rims will stick out a LITTLE more. but for what youll pay to put an axle in your rear, why fix something with high mileage, thats hard to get parts for, and most parts are faulty anyway? a good 4th gen rear can usually be had for 350 or less at a junkyard if you let them keep the ABS junk(which is useless to you anyway)

Well the brakes do not work. They are getting
plenty of fluid back there. Master cylinder is ok and prop valve checked out. The calipers do not apply enough pressure to stop the rear wheels from spinning while car is on stands in drive. I have heard many complaints about the J65 rear braking system on these cars. Since i have a bent axle and inoperative rear brake system it seems like a good enough excuse to get another rear end. I'll good ahead and begin looking for a new rear end and see if i can get a good deal on one.
